History of Pen y Mynydd

Pen y Mynydd 1960s

Pen y Mynydd is owned by the Walker family. When we were children we used to spend our holidays here, as our maternal grandparents were local farmers.

Our parents bought Pen y Mynydd in 1961, from a farmer who had run it as a small-holding. Back then there was grazing for sheep and cattle, a vegetable plot, a cart and a dairy shed. What is now the kitchen and main living area was the cow shed, and there was a stone pig sty at the end of the building where the patio is. Over the intervening years various alterations have been made, including installing a shower, as originally there was no bathroom as such, just a tin bath hanging on a hook in the kitchen.

In 2012 we decided to completely renovate the property so that the extended family could enjoy a little more comfort and so that we could share this unique location with others. You can now pad around on the warm tile floors, snuggle up in front of the wood burning stove, take a lovely hot shower, and since the roof has been raised, even stand up straight in the upstairs bedrooms!
